| Meet Ben Jones.
He was my divine appointment yesterday.
I was praying and asking God what He had me to do that day. I hear a knock at the door, and find a salesman soliciting me to buy some new eco-friendly amazing cleaner.
The normal response would be to refuse, close the door, and continue to "seek God" for what he wanted me to do for him.
But Praise God He opened my blind eyes to see. "Debbie, this IS what I want you to do for me today!" I didn't ignore the tuggings of the Holy Spirit to see this man as one for whom Christ died. I prayed for him as he talked, and felt the Lord tell me to explain to him why I am unable to purchase this cleaner. So I did. He understood, and asked if he could use my bathroom. I hesitated but remembered God's word, "I was a stranger and you invited me in" (Matt 25:35). "Can I trust you?" I asked him. "I learned since I was little that I'm not supposed to let strangers in my house."
We chuckled together. He came inside, and used the restroom. I felt the tug again. "Give him something to drink." I offered him a drink. Thankfully he accepted. On his way out, he asked if I was going to the army or something because I was leaving in a couple weeks. I answered, "Depends on what you mean by army. I am in a different kind of army. The army of God."
He looked at me stunned, but curious.
"I love God! I live for Him!" I replied to his stare.
He began to tell me of his journey the past few years, of how he knew that it was only because of God that he had this job at all. He's just trying to get on his feet.
God had whispered "Mom" to me about him but was unsure what He meant. I invited Ben to sit down and chat. He began explaining the tattoo across his wrist. It was his mom's name that he had never met. He never knew his mom or dad, was adopted into a family whose parents could give a rip about him. He was out on the streets, living from shelter to shelter. He had grown up in church, and believed in Jesus, but life was hard. He didn't understand. This job just came up and he started working it 3 weeks ago.
My heart burned for this child of God. "Do you know you are a prince? God created you to live as a prince in his kingdom, by believing in his son, Jesus. He loves you."
We talked some more. Shared the gospel. I prayed for him. The Holy Spirit entered the room powerfully and into his heart. It was TANGIBLE in the room. Whew!
Tears were welling up in his eyes, and he kept saying, "I don't know what to do. My heart can't handle this. I've never felt this love before. How can God...?" It hit me. He had never felt love from a father or mother. LORD! Increase the capacity of his heart!! I prayed.
I felt God tell me to buy the cleaner from him. "But LORD I don't have any money!!!" "Debbie, seriously, I'm the God of the world, you think I can't provide for you? cmon now!" Mind you, the cleaner was $44 for a half gallon and $75 for the full.
I looked at him and said, "hey, God told me to buy the cleaner from you." Ben apologetically said, " You can't, you don't have money. You need money for your plane ticket. No, no, I can't take it."
"Hey, God is my dad. He's got my back. and yours."
As I was signing the receipt for the order, my cell phone rang. "Debbie? This is Emily from OfficeTeam. I have a one-day gig for you next week. You want it?"
I looked at Ben. "You will never guess what God just did. He just provided the money for me to buy this cleaner!"
We rejoiced together.
We prayed, we laughed, we took pictures. He's coming to church with me this Sunday.
I love Jesus.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25: 34-40
| America has created a world that discriminates against walkers. Where are the sidewalks? Just massive intersections with no crosswalks...and too many cars. It's no wonder I hated walking before.
Thus, we breed obesity.
I tried to do all my errands today without a car. I walked the busy intersections, trekked through grass and gravel; sidewalks were nowhere to be found. I came to the conclusion that this is why so many people are fat.
Such is the christian life. The world will work hard to keep us from living the life that God originally intended, enticing us with comfort, shortcuts, busyness, until we are left a useless blob of fat, too undisciplined to get up and fight.
I love taking walks! Admiring God's creation because it groans for His glory. His beauty is displayed right outside your door.
I guarantee you will hear the rocks cry out. It's amazing yet sad, that my job has been overtaken by rocks.

What Can I Do For God?
Most of us would like to do something special in life, something to distinguish us. We suppose that we desire it for God's sake, but more likely we are discontent with ordinary life and crave special privileges. When Israel asked if they should offer some spectacular sacrifice--thousands of rams, ten thousand "rivers of oil," a firstborn child--the answer was, "He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God" (Mi 6:8 RSV).
There is nothing conspicuous about those requirements. It is not a "special" service for which one would be likely to be decorated or even particularly remembered. But it is worth more to God than any sacrifice.
Lord, deliver me from the delusion of imagining that my desire is to serve You, when my real desire is the distinction of serving in some way which others admire.
| Jesus had dirty feet.
Why aren't my feet dirty.
What am i DOING.
Where is my treasure?!
God help me to stop blabbing, and start walking. I want it all.
